My fiance and I are trying to plan a wedding. She wants to do a catholic wedding but move the reception to another nice venue so we can do the whole dj and party-like reception. She wants the venue to be close by. I am finding it impossible to find a church in houston that we are not members of and on top of that, to find a nice venue that would be within a few miles from whatever catholic church. Our current church does not have any venues nearby but our deacon agreed to marry us, as long as it was in a church. This seems nearly impossible but I am trying my best to figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts?

We did this, but our locations weren't necessarily close to each other. In fact, it was about a 20 minute drive. Church was at 249 and 1960 (church she grew up in) and the reception hall was in the Heights (gallery M Squared). We just tried to provide a good map, so that everyone could find their way.

Where are you looking to do it? St. Theresa at Memorial park is a nice church, and venues in the heights won't be too far away. We also looked at having the venue closer to the church, but didnt find one we liked. The heights venue let us bring our own food and beer/wine. We just had to provide tables and chairs. We felt like this came out cheaper than going to something where they make you buy your own food.

We are trying to have it anywhere in the city. We live on the south side, have family on the west side, and friends scattered throughout the city. We want our own catering and bar service but would prefer to have a place with fancy tables, seats, and cutlery. Thanks for the feedback! I will look in to that now.

We got married at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on the NW Side and had the reception just a couple miles away at Ravenaux country club this past January. Both venues were fantastic. Prince of Peace will also do a 430pm Wedding which was great for a 6pm reception start! Prince of Peace does not require you to be a member at the church.

haudi - that's where we got married too.

The 4:30 start time I thought would make it a pain, but it gave people enough time to take pictures and get to the venue that was in the heights.

We got married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church near 610S. The wedding I believe was at 2pm. The reception was at the Courtyard at St. James (near Galleria) at 7pm (though it is no longer there). We provided maps/directions in all of the invitations and on the wedding programs at the church. Though our guests had a few hours between the ceremony and reception to do what they wanted. I am guessing this will be your situation as well.

That's a rouge church there! Papers are actually required to be filled out for church records, and at least one of you are supposed to be a registered member of the church.

As you probably noticed, Catholic marriages must occur in a church, they don't do those nice gazebo/beach weddings like other faiths do... if they do, then that is also rogue!

Sorry, I wasn't clear when I meant registered. We we are both Catholic, however PoP doesn't require you to be registered with them as your home parish in order to use their church. We are registered at another Catholic church in the area. You obviously need to be Catholic and have your paper trail of sacraments and other Catholic marriage requirements complete before you will be allowed to get married there.

Re registering... when my wife and I married, I researched and was able to get a Papal Audience with the Pope back then, now St John Paul. They used all those documents, they had to be verified and the priest from the parish had to verify them and send them ahead of time.

We did get to sit next to, and personally meet the Pope, and get a blessing from his hands. It was great.
