The thread on choosing an electricity provider got me wondering how expensive electricity/gas is in Houston. I live in California, we use the AC from mid-May thru September, keeping it at 78 degrees. Our summer bills average $500+ per month (I don't know off-hand what my kw usage is...). What can I expect in Houston, where you are running your AC more than half the year?

3200 square foot house. Last month was around $100. Average about $65/mth. Use the a/c daily on 75 degrees or so. House is less than a year old and energy efficient.

3,600 sqft, 2 story, 2 AC's currently set to 74/5 constant (don't let it rise during the day), newish house (2011) which is quite energy efficient.
I'm on average billing and pay $140/month. It peaks at about $250-300. Though this was based on running AC at 72 24/7 so my bill is dropping since running it at 74/75.

So how old is your house when are are saying your bill prices ? Energy efficiencies in newer homes is important. I am in a 2001 built 2-story 2300 sq ft and summer utility bills are $300 range. 79 degree daytime and 75 at night.

The energy efficiency of the house is a big factor and makes it difficult to say what to expect along with other factors such as shade and windows.

I live in a 1900sqft single story energy star certified home built in 2010 and my highest bill has been $110 with AC set at 76day /74night. If I average the last year it ends up being about $65 a month. That is with gas stove/heat/water and electric dryer. Highest gas bill I've had is $25. About $20 of that is just fees for having the service.

$100-135/month depending on time of year for 3 floors 2100sq ft and AC at 73 degrees 24/7.

I think I need to shop around again.

New home only a year old and energy efficient it would be lower for most people but I am a electricity hog lol

I had a one bedroom 850 square foot place in Bellaire that one summer cost me 200 bucks for July and 200 for August. I learned then to stay on my electric bill and call every 9-12 months to negotiate a better rate! After that expensive lesson, I was never over 100.

Now here in Coastal LA county, I never pay over 20 bucks a month for electricity.
