For a family vacation I can see why it would be a nice place to go. I'm sure the kids will get a kick out of going to a beach where the water looks like chocolate milk.

East Beach is nice too but not as family friendly. The water color is fine as long as its not choppy. I wouldnt recomend the beaches along the seawall though

Why, because a SURVEY OF READERS of a low-rent Web site called "Family Vacation Critic" named a beach in Galveston? Has anyone ever heard of this site? Has anyone ever known a reader survey to be total crap?

There are very nice beaches elsewhere in Texas. But Galveston's public beaches are an embarrassment. Ugly, narrow, strewn with dead seaweed and tar, hot and humid, and at the edge of opaque brown water--who would go these if any other option were available? The more private beaches on the western part of the island are a bit better, but not much.

Get real.

Sorry, but I had to wipe my coffee off my screen because I just about spit it all out. Galveston beaches belong in the top 10 like I belong on the top 50 sexiest men alive.

If I were to post a picture of myself, many of you would probably compare me to a Galveston beach.

Yeah, I'm a born and bred Houstonian/ Texan. I love my city and love my state, but Galveston beaches suck.
