They need to build a flyover off ramp onto the Sam Houston first, to help move more local traffic. West bound Westpark comes to a complete stop at Fondren just before 4:30 pm, backed up with Richmond/Fulshear traffic.Once you get to the Sam Houston exit ramp, there's no one there and its smooth sailing. Often I just get off at Fondren and drive into Memorial. It's almost eerie how little traffic there is on the semi-major streets inside the Beltway, compared to the freeways heading west.

The farther they build it out, the more useless it becomes.

Demand comes first, followed by funding/construction. Roads are rarely built pro-actively anymore, and haven't been since the great freeway developments of the pre-1970s. Not only that, but roads aren't simply just "built" anymore. There are environmental impact studies to contend with after right of way acquisition (which in this case, I imagine the county has owned this entire being utilized beyond capacity. Unfortunately that's life.

As an example, the Grand Parkway loop existed on Houston's long term transit infrastructure plans since late 1960s / early 1970s, and only in the last 20 years did little bits and pieces get developed, let alone the full scale development we've seen in the last 2 years.

Also to your point, I whole-heartedly agree. I went to school at Lamar and drove 59 every day, and the amount of development between FM 762 and TX-36 in the last 5 years is amazing.
