I can guarantee you dealerships & independents like Christian Brothers do not hire ex cons to work on cars.
Dealerships don't, can't speak for Christian Bros, but the "independents" that own several of these lube/maintenance/light repair shops statewide most certainly do. Over the course of a few years I bounced around their SE-Clear Lake region managing 5 shops.

Jiffy Lube & Wal Mart does because they can't find anyone else to slave underneath a car changing scalding hot motor oil 8 hours a day for $8.00 an hour.

Even the so called shop "managers" at those types of places don't get paid much (between $12-13 an hour) & have little, if any automotive training under their belts.

That's all true, but there are many, many big companies that own chains of different shops with different names all over Houston. The market has been super-saturated for a very long time now. The shop managers working those chains usually do have auto experience and make around 40-50k w/ full (excellent) benefits. But their workers still consist of plenty of $8/hr riff raff, alcoholics, etc. The very few of them who actually try to better themselves, usually quit to do 7 12s as laborers during turnarounds, then come back.

I've gone to the dealer for oil changes ever since Jiffy Lube drained my transmission fluid and filled it with motor oil. Granted they did tow it to the dealer and paid for the repair but never again shall I grace their dirty doorways again.
