The least expensive option for sure. I've done it a few times, and you can get all of the deadbolts and knobs keyed to the same key if they are the same style of key blank. Cost me about $40 for 4 doors for the deadbolt and knob. My local locksmith only charges about $5 per lock cylinder to rekey the locks when I bring them to him.

Schlage is one of the better locks around. I do have the Quickset style currently, but I installed longer screws on the door jambs and added metal reinforcement to them also.

As for the garage door, do you have an opener? If so, you would be best to erase all of the old remote controls from the memory just in case the previous owner had an extra remote or a car programmed to the door. Then you can reset the remotes you have to the opener. There should be some instructions online for your particular garage door opener.

If you don't have an opener, but have an actual key in the garage door, then you could get it rekeyed also, or just install an opener and it will keep the door from being opened.

Good luck!

Thank you so much, that was very helpful. I'll check the garage door and see what options we have.
