Restocking a Converted Grocery Store in the Houston Heights » Swamplot: Houston's Real Estate Landscape

I'll refer the readers to the link above. Nice interior, but $565K for 1728 sqft on a 2904 tiny lot, enough said!

....and yet, one that size would go for around $700K in West U.

No, neither has bubbled - been that way for awhile.

I laugh at your feeble attempts to compare West U and Height. West U has so much more to offer.

depends on who you are. id rather live in the heights than west u. single, male, no kids

"nice interior" is an understatement. not my style, but yeah an understatement. people will pay a hefty price for having an non-tract style home. i think it is pretty awesome. serious people buying in the heights wouldn't flinch at that price tag, certainly not for that building

I'm 27, single, male, no kids, currently living in Bellaire, and I'd rather live in West U than Heights.

Congrats. Different things for different folks. I think the Heights will still be fine for the foreseeable future with the boom in the energy corridor and far north Houston (new Exxon campus, Woodlands, etc) making for a good reverse commute for young adults and young couples; not to mention the office's going up inside the loop. All of this plus proximity to amenities make for a good place. Very comparable to West U, except for a different crowd.

Is the Heights still considered Bohemian hippy? Driving my scooter through there once, I stopped at a Fiesta along Shepherd to fetch me some sundries. In exiting, I was talking to a Hispanic man until he became wide eyed and commenced to running suddenly out from the store. Kind of shocked at his odd behavior, I soon realized his attention was focused on a bicycle that was left out front unlocked and unattended.

You know, that is a remarkable aspect about Houston. You can actually be in a neighborhood of 565K houses all the while having intelligent conversations with the criminals who prey on them. Indeed, when the area isn't flooding and washing away, this Bohemian aspect about Houston has great potential to melt the pot.
