I took it up in the entry of my house in Dallas and in the 500 sf kitchen we have now. Get yourself a hammer and a chisel and a radio. It took me a couple of days. The prior owner had put something down to reset about 30 tiles. i had to use a grinder on the slab to get the thin set up.

We had a dumpster, so getting rid of it was no problem. In Dallas there was such a little bit, 5x12, we took it to the transfer station.

The guys who removed the hardwood when we replaced it dropped wood and leveler all over my house. They did not put any protection down on the marble entry. When the kitchen needed to come up, this old woman did it herownself, rather than have another bunch of idiots trashing my house.

you don't have to buy the tools. rent them from sunbelt (lowes) or HD. they rent the big bosch hammers. buy a dust mask though and plastic off anything you don't want dust on. you'll need ear protection and safety glasses too. a gpod set of knee pads will help as well.

as for the thinset, it comes off of concrete rather easily. when you are done, your floor will be flat and mostly smooth. thinset is slightly softer than concrete, so it will come off with no problem. when you are done, however, you will need to level the floor with a good leveler. any reputable wood flooring guy will know this.

There is some kind of grout that is grout and an adhesive. It was not thin set that i had to grind off. The tile came up very easily mostly with the square point shovel, just popped right up. The only problem was the adhesive used to reset the tile.
