Hi Friends,
I am moving to Houston Tx in next couple of weeks for anew job. I am looking for newly constructed apartments for rent in some safe and nice areas close to south of downtown houston. I will be working on Gulf Fwy & Hwy 90 (S Wayside Dr). Please let me know any descent apartments approx within 10 miles from my work place and less than 20 minutes commute to work.
PS: I am an Asian South Indian (Desi) aged 30 and married.

Need to know budget before we can guide you in the right direction. There are options, most of the better ones will be heading south on 45 from your workplace. There's also Pearland, but that might be stretching your 20 minute commute parameter.

If you really want new construction, I think you need to stretch your commute and distance requirements.

Thx Engineer for your reply!

My bad; I am looking for 1br gated apt community for $1100 or so...

I can stretch upto 15 miles and 30 mins commute or so. But need a safe and descent place.

Pls name the Apts so that I can contact them.

Unfortunately, you work in a real iffy area.

Google "apartment locator 77007" (or 77004, 77019) and get their help - it's a free service. They charge the apartments and know which are the nicer ones. Go for inside the loop, maybe Midtown - and the commute won't be that bad. If you try and get close, you are going to be living in that iffy area.

You don't need to mention your ethnicity, it's not important in Houston - everyone is pretty mixed up - especially in apartments.

What about Discovery at Shadow Creek Ranch Apartments at Pearland. They were built last year and is 15 miles. Someone please let me know if these are safe and good ones.

Pearland is for the most part fairly safe.

If you have no children yet, Midtown on the outskirts of downtown might be nice. Or the Rice Village area.

The majority of posters her have not lived in apartments recently, in that area. I am a Realtor and am not familiar with apartments in that area - but if my sister was coming into to town and needed an apartment, I would suggest doing exactly like I suggested on my earlier post.

You could include Pearland, especially if you have children, which you did not mention.
