I am a teacher in the Dallas area that is thinking about bringing my students to Houston to visit the Space Center. If any educators on this board can give some feedback on the Center as a decent place to visit, please list some things that you like / dislike about it. Thanks!

What age are your students? If they are elementary they would love it and learn a lot. I have never taken a class on a field trip there, but my daughter loves it. I am not sure about taking students from middle or high school. I would contact Johnson Space Center to see what their program entails. I am sure it will be differentiated for different ages.

That is a heck of a trek for a field trip. I think it would be pretty cool. I went there many times in HS. I actually hosted at the space center. It just opened up when I was in HS at HSEP. It was better than being in school! I would call down and see if you can get some sort of special tour. There is much more to NASA than the space center. I am sure it has changed though. I have not been there in 20 years.

The Space Center Houston entrance building is more of an amusement area for kids IMO. They do have a lot of other traveling displays not pertaining to space also. Last time we went was in my boy's scout troop and we spent the night at the facility. It was a blast as they had all kinds of special presentations and activities for the kids after the facility closed, and the outdoor tram tour was the next morning. We didn't take it as my boys had a sports game that next morning, but we planned to go back for it. They have programs geared towards all age groups for day camps so if you have kids that are interested in it, then it wold be a great experience for them.
