Great info. Thanks. It would have been better if they compared the same plans.

State Farm has always been on the high side for TX homeowners. They wanted a whopping $4k premium and I was able to get less than half that.

I was just shopping for an auto and home insurance. This time I did it "right" by comparing actual rates at the State of Texas Dept. on Insurance website.
Auto, Home and Commercial Insurance Help Main Page

This seem to be working much better than usual (friends referrals, trusting annoying ads like Geico, etc.), because everyones situation is different.

Feel free to check their insurance stats for both home and auto.

https://apps.tdi.state.tx.us/helpins...rt.do?type=res
https://apps.tdi.state.tx.us/helpinspublic/autoTab.do

The problem with insurances is that one have to check not just the price, but also the financial standings of the Insurer (credit rating). And also the Customers "Complaints index".
This is important! Because every Insurer seems to be "nice" until it's time to pay you money. This is often when they don't have enough or have an excuse to not give them to you. Or worse, they bankrupt and don't give you any at all. What's the use of all the savings you had all these years?

Default Hardest part to insurance

Proper Coverage:

If your personal property is valued on the policy at $100,000 or more and you have less than $20,000 or more than a million... this is where discrepancy comes in. Lack of coverage OR Too much.

While your rate is not probably going to drop significantly by having less personal property coverage over time it all ads up.

Home Owner's insurance was meant as catastrophic way to recoup losses... but it has changed and the games insurer plays at trying to find ways of sucking money out of your wallet without you knowing it.

It just seems like more of a racket than anything else. I have never once filed a claim and my insurer was trying to increase my rate some where around 40% and I have had annual increases over the past 2 years on top of that.

So I got a few quotes.... better coverage and lower costs, plus roadside assistance in the deal too as I added vehicle coverage to it as well.

They beat prices on both the home owners and automobile policies.

I treat it as catastrophic coverage only because I've got a high deductible. The odds are I will never file a claim just like as in the past.

I used Brian Massey (google "Brian Massey Liere" to find him) - he represents several companies and gave me the best home insurance quote. After I move in a month or so I will use the quote he gave me for the car insurance as well. Very responsive and courteous agent.
