We are relocating to Houston and will be working in the Northwestern part of Houston. Based on our online research, we have narrowed down where we'd like to live to either a master planned community in the Woodlands/Spring area or the Katy/Cinco Ranch area. We are looking in the 250k range and will probably rent for the first year. It's important to us that the area is very safe and our son has lots of neighborhood friends that play outside and an active youth sports community. Any input would be welcome- school quality, safe and fun neighborhoods, commutes, etc. Thank you!

I don't think you can go wrong with Cinco Ranch in Katy.

Not sure what size house but $250k doesn't get you much anymore.

Good luck.

You could get a nice size home in Oak Forest for $250k might be a good option if your work is not that far away

I second Cinco Ranch. A new house could have a base price around $250k but once you add to the basics, it can run closer to $300k. Older homes can fit the budget (less than 2500 sqft though since they go for about $100/sqft)

If you care about school district more than anything? I would consider Cinco. If not Woodlands is the better choice, you will see slightly more appreciation on your home. Heck If I were you I would buy just north of spring (in between Spring and the Woodlands) you will probably make money on your house. Buy soon while interest rates are low
