Depends on where your house is and if you are getting financing.

I would say that Hazard insurance is mostly required anywhere. Depending on area, you might need separate Windstorm insurance (mostly south areas where hurricanes can do the most damage) and Flood insurance (if it's in a flood zone or you just want peace of mind).

Hazard/Homeowner's insurance will be required, and flood insurance will probably be smart (and likely cheap).

You have to see about your individual house - check if flood and windstorm are required. Not all homes in the same areas are I'm the same zones.

Windstorm may be included in your regular homeowners policy. Just ask. I wouldn't say windstorm is for south only. My co-worker had 80k worth of damage to her home in nw Houston after Ike and it was a wind related claim.

Sorry, I meant separate windstorm insurance. I just bought a home in Pearland and there are no insurance companies who are willing to insure windstorm. But it's required. So the problem comes in where you have to buy separate policies from different companies. A regular hazard homeowners insurance and a (very expensive) windstorm policy with TWIA.

Yes, if you live anywhere else, windstorm is usually included.

(literally... state farm, farmer's, allstate, aaa, nationwide, geico, esurance all told me no)
