The city has got to do something about the Bum problem. Its bad enough that these bums are are hanging around on Westheimer and Fountain View. The have like one on every corner. Harassing people for money and getting in the way of traffic, but now they are attracting rats with all the trash they leave around.

"The inspector says the rodents may be coming from the sewer system but adds the large number of panhandlers at the intersection are leaving food in the bushes and the rats are having a feast."

Technically, galleria/uptown ends at Chimney rock. Then it starts going down hill as you head west. So it doesn't really surprise me about the bums and rats . But bums are almost everywhere in Houston so what does surprise me is that we don't have the same problem in lots of other places. Maybe they're not being reported?

It's better to pick up a bum and drop them off somewhere they can live better, like across the cafeteria of a university. A lot of sympathetic students will take care of them.

I agree, I'm just using the headline channel 13 used.

Of course blame the poor people. It seems the way of our country now. Attack the weak who can't defend themselves. The rats are from the apartments that were bulldozed recently. They fled that area and moved towards HEB. They will be taken care of soon enough. It is not a big deal.

Yes, you're right, the rats are NOT due to the homeless. Was off the mark.

We need more snakes and scorpions in Houston...that would take care of the rat problem.

Get a clue, the report clearly states the rats are attracted to the trash that the bums are leaving behind.

If that was the case, you'd see a huge rat problem everywhere there are homeless people, which is pretty much everywhere in Houston. Sure leaving food out will attract them, but you can't blame the overall surge to the homeless. There was already a large number of rats displaced from the tear down of old buildings, that was the primary cause, article even said so. I'm sure you'll find rats in all the dumpsters and sewers in that area now, until the city curbs the population.

"An inspector blames the infestation on nearby construction that has forced the rats to find a new home. The inspector says the rodents may be coming from the sewer system but adds the large number of panhandlers at the intersection are leaving food in the bushes and the rats are having a feast. "
