I don't follow politics that much but I do visit CNN website almost everyday. If you read the comments regarding government shutdown, most people blame the republicans/tea party for it.

I know Texas is a Republican state, don't know about Houston though.

The City of Houston votes Democrat. The greater metro area leans to the right.

Most urban areas vote for Democrats even in southern states. Parker won the general election 31% and won the run off election 53% of the vote. I am curious to see how Wendy Davis does for governor. I think she might surprise some. We used to have Democrats for majors. I am just glad Perry will be gone.

We are mixed. In the suburbs, they lean right, but still mixed. In the city, they lean left, but still mixed.

Yeah, but we seem to have a close percentage of mixed - 40/60 or 45/55 - compared to other places where it may be 20/80 or even10/90. Some places are decidedly blue or red - others are more purple.

It is really sad. A large portion of Houston is represented by one of the dumbest Democrats in Congress, Sheila Jackson Lee. Houston is made up of a large number of those people who eagerly accept the "free" handouts that Democrats like Lee love to be associated with. As long as there are Democrats who prey upon the uneducated masses by making them dependent on government handouts, this city will lean strongly to the left. Not unlike lots of other large cities.

Soooo the large numbers of educated and affluent citizens who tend to vote Democrat...what's their excuse?
