Looks incredible. Going to be a huge third floor balcony. Looks like it is going to be a nice bar. It is in the location of that gay cowboy bar that caught fire. Construction looks like it is several months off from opening, but you can see the layout now.

Just another nail in the coffin for Washington. I never thought Washington would die off, but I don't know anyone that likes to go there anymore. Taps is the only bar I care to go to there.

I have seen the construction about every other day as I drive by, it is going to be huge. It also does not surprise me that Washington is fading, it is bound to fade, it is not too pedestrian friendly for bar hopping as is the Midtown area. I look for the Midtown area to get even crazier as time goes on, as it is now, they close off some of the short connecting streets (with no homes) during certain days like St Patricks along Bagby and Brazos. There are more places scheduled to open along Gray street as well, and a few on Bagby.

When Houston hosts the Super Bowl, I expect the area to be really crazy, and a fun place to be after having fun in downtown. Some good times are on the horizon.

I just can't see downtown ever coming back. I love midtown. I also love new options to go to.

Downtown is already coming back. There have been about 10 new restaranuts/bars open in the Market Square area this year.

Brazoz Bottom River didn't burn down, they just closed.

I can actually see an entertainment strip springing up along Main Street stretching from Midtown to Market Square (with GreenStreet in the middle). That's providing they do it right, of course.

Discovery Green will be the center of the Super Bowl festivities, so I'm curious to see how the area will be affected. Both Midtown and Market Square will benefit, of course, but it'll probably revive GreenStreet due to sheer proximity.

I know Schumacher73 lives near by, and I drive by that place two or three times a week.... It did catch fire, but not burn to the ground. Not sure when the fire happened though, I could find no reference to it with Google, but I know there was fire damage, and windows blown out, charred wood, etc. These types of fires, and the timing of the "sales" afterwards always seem suspicious to me.

All the new highrises in downtown might bring it back. I hear good things about Okra and some bars around there. It won't be like it used to be though.

Default History repeats itself...

I was reading an article recently about the history of Houston and downtown and how it thrived. A long time ago there used to be electric cars that went up and down Main street like today, and when they were removed sometime in the 50's, all the merchants were very happy and all the businesses boomed.

Fast forward to today, and downtown was getting lively as I recall, then they came in and put rail in again, and most of the clubs and restaurants that were budding went out of business. Pedestrian areas are nice, but not when you have a wall between both sides of the street.

Right? Remember Jones Bar and Tonic? How about Mercury Room and (what was the place in the old Isis Theater?) Those were great places killed by the MetroRail.

They were not killed by the Metro Rail. That is just silly. Houston is a fickle town. Bar areas are hot for a while then everyone jumps to a new one. So many here have no clue how the bar scene works in Houston.

And a wall? Are you kidding? I did not realize the rail ran on top of a wall.
