I usually fly United because they offer more flights throughout the day. You usually only get about two flights a day with Southwest, and those times aren't ideal.

I prefer Southwest because:

1. Hobby is easier to get to for basically everybody living south of I10. The terminal and security are usually never that busy either, so you can get from curbside to your gate in less than 10 minutes. Never gone that fast at Bush.

2. From my experience Southwest is nearly always cheaper. Sometimes its only by $10, sometimes by $200. But for all the flights I've booked, I haven't yet seen United have the best fare.

The one advantage that United does have though is that they serve a lot more destinations non-stop than Southwest does.

Southwest is no longer the consistently cheaper airline. I often see United fares at or below Southwest. However, I love being able to cancel Southwest flights without any penalty, that alone is worth paying a little extra.
