I'm just wondering if anybody here has had experience with it. I've been looking at condos and townhouses vaguely around the midtown, montrose, and greenway areas. Part of me figures if I can't afford a yard, well, maybe I can get a view of the city instead.

I know I've heard high rises in Houston are generally a mixed bag with high maintenance fees and yet poor building maintenance. I'm a little worried about resale value since so much of the unit's value would derive from the state of the building.

I lived in a highrise once. Maintenance fees are super expensive. I never saw any building maintenance issues. I don't know how the resale value will be. Probably won't appreciate much in an old highrise. Plus we are building lots of new ones right now. I can tell you highrises are like retirement homes. There are some single people there too. I would get a townhouse over a highrise. It will appreciate much faster. You won't throw away 15 grand a year in maintenance fees. It is a hassle to live in. I will say one good thing about it. It is great for getting women into bed! They see the view at night on a balcony. Good luck!
