One of my objectives for the remainder of this year (and thereafter) is to become a dedicated patron of the arts.

I hear that Houston ranks above many other metropolitan areas nationwide. Is this an accurate statement?

Is it true that Houston ranks above other cities with the exception of NYC AND PERHAPS Chicago?

That is a worthy advocation . Can you tell us what brought you to this epiphany? Is this a challenge to the rest of the forum to do the same?

Well, after taking random jaunts to Jones Hall to catch a performance or even fewer excursions to the MFA and other local museums, I am somewhat outdone when friends come to town, on a semi-regular basis, for the purpose of viewing an exhibit or catching a show. They mention how bountiful Houston is culturally compared to other cities they visit and suggest that I should get more involved. I guess you can call it an epiphany...even though my name is "Bubba" doesn't mean I have to be one.

Good. Sign up for the ticket packages that way you've already invested (and you technically get a better price). What many people don't know is that a lot of the ticket packages are at least moderately negotiable.

Tell me, is your name really Bubba Poindexter. The name Poindexter connotes a bookworm type (like the professor's son on Felix the Cat). Doesn't seem compatible with the name Bubba. Maybe Bubba is a nickname?

Perhaps you're just injecting some humor into an otherwise too serious forum?

When I was a kid, I told all the new adults on the block that my name was Jack Daniels. I didn't even know why they were laughing. It just came to mind randomly.

I've read that Houston has the second most number of theater seats in the country, second only to New York. I've been to quite a few shows and the production value seems pretty great. I've never been to a Broadway show, so I have no basis for comparison. But for me it's fine.

Don't forget the Houston Grand Opera - consistently ranked the 3rd or 4th best opera company in the US (after the Met and the SF Opera, some might argue Lyric Opera of Chicago). We're in the middle of opera season, so check it out!
