Seven years later and the land is still sitting empty. Great move to close Astroworld for land nobody knows what to do with. I guess the Rodeo could buy the rest of it and turn it into a big parking lot.

The parent company for Astroworld got their money. It was a great move for them.

The city should have bought it and turned it into a city park or held on to it until they found another buyer. There's no reason why a city this size doesn't have a amusement park. Im still pissed that astroworld closed down!

Not really. They got less than 1/2 of what they were expecting...years after they expected to get it. Had there been more time it would probably still be there. The Six Flags board of directors was kicked out by shareholders after the announcement to close a profitable property (AstroWorld) was made...but there wasn't enough time once that happened to stop what the previous board had already put in motion.

The city just does not have that kind of money to throw around. That was not an option at the time. I could care less that Astroworld closed. I grew up with that place and rarely went. When I did go it really was not that much fun. I really don't know anyone that went. San Antonio has a Six Flags not too far away!

I still don't understand why Astroworld/Waterworld closed. It was packed every time I went.

Basically, the owners got greedy and thought they could sell the property for a lot. They were wrong.

Capitalism!

In its declining years, Astroworld was frequented by local thugs whose sole reason for going there was to steal from and harass visitors. It just wasnt safe anymore.

I went to AstroWorld frequently in the final years and never felt unsafe.
