Hello,
Just curious about which field of law is the highest paying for legal assistants and paralegals. I know in a lot of places it is either intellectual property or litigation, but I've heard that oil and gas paralegals make a lot more in Houston. Is this the case?

Houston's booming entertainment scene has really made entertainment law hot in Houston. You can google "Houston entertainment lawyers" for the big firm listings.

With that racket called MUD here in Texas, I would think that's the ticket.

The big law firms typically pay more than the smaller law firms or solo practitioners regardless of the specialty.

MUD lawyers and their helpers, accountants, engineers, bond advisors etc never have to worry about job security. That unending income stream may not be the highest, but it sure has longevity.

I'm a partner in a law firm and have experience at really small to really large firms, so I've seen the numbers from the inside. Generally speaking, your best bets are a large law firm, a litigation firm, or an intellectual property firm. IP is the hardest to break into from what I've seen.

I have no experience with MUD or entertainment law. Perhaps those specialties pay great for paralegals and assistants, but I would guess that there are much fewer of those jobs to go around.

Do you think IP would still be hard to break into with two years paralegal experience at an IP firm on the west coast?
