I am searching for homes in the Woodlands in Zillow, however the city either says Spring, Magnolia or Woodlands. Can someone please help clarify why those additional areas come up as well. Also, Does anyone know the difference between Woodland High school and College Park High school. Thanks!

There's an overlap. If it says Spring then it is in Spring despite seeming like it's in TW.

The Woodlands is a small area while Spring stretches up right to TW to where you think you're in TW but you're technically in Spring.

It's the same thing. If you want The Woodlands, don't get caught up in the city address. If it's where you think should be the Woodlands then it's fine and you don't have to worry about being in a bad area or whatever because you're mailing address doesn't say TW.

The overlaps are funny. I have a friend technically in "Spring" yet just 5 minutes from their house across some train tracks is technically "Tomball". Same thing. It's like right there on the boarder. Same area. Different name.

The Woodlands is a master planned community so there is no actual city called The Woodlands. The Woodlands is in unincorporated Montgomery county and in general the unincorporated areas north of Houston are "Spring". You can put whatever city name you want on your address since post office just follows zip code anyhow.

Correct, though there is talk of The Woodlands incorporating into a City one day.

People get hung up on mailing address not understanding that the mailing address city is determined by the federal government (i.e. post office) and is simply a means of routing mail. It has absolutely nothing to do with local cities and there is generally no communication between cities and the USPS on addresses aside from when they are issued.

Personally, I think a lot of the confusion is from realtors who play up the mailing address. I've seen this a lot in the neighborhoods north of Sugar Land that are technically in the Houston extraterritorial jurisdiction.

No is no City of Spring, either. It is a wide spot in the road. It was a railroad community years ago.

When the 1960 area developed in the 70's, the USPS just made Spring bigger and bigger.

People also confuse the ISD's and communities. Most of the Klein ISD is in the post office designation Spring. North of 1960, Spring is east of I 45. Just a little part is west. But the USPS has the designation Spring from Champions Forest subdivision north almost to Tomball and the Woodlands.

As you can see from the comments above, you need to get a realtor who specializes in that area to help you.

The Woodlands is now a township and is not part of Spring. If you want to make sure your kids will go to The Woodlands schools type in conroeisd.net under "what school do I go to".

Yeah, to make it more confusing, Woodlands High is in Conroe ISD...and has a Spring TX mailing address.

Zillow sucks. You're wasting your time.

Houston Real estate, Houston homes, Houston Realtors - HAR.com is the only real way to find homes.
