Time to join hands and sing kumbaya while HISD changes school names to avoid offending the Native Americans. I guess the Westbury name change will also be made to appease anyone offended by southern heritage. I find it laughable HISD is so hot and bothered to get these name changes pushed through when the district has bigger worries.

HISD schools may change mascots at schools that use Native American images | abc13.com

HISD's superintendent says a move by the Board of Trustees to approve policy changes would impact four campuses, phasing out the Lamar High School Redskins, Westbury High School Rebels, Hamilton Middle School Indians and Welch Middle School Warriors mascots and all related symbols and branding images by the end of the school year.

I'm personally offended by the "Fighting Irish" (drunks) and the Celtics. They are mocking my racial and ethnic heritage and bringing up painful memories of oppression at the hands of the English.

I don't understand why people are offended that a school decides to change the school mascot from a Native American to something else.

If we want to teach kids to treat everybody the same, we can start by teaching them that Native Americans are not mascots.

Thank you Dopo, just because something is a tradition doesn't mean it's right.

Maybe because not all native Americans are falling for the liberal P.C. Garbage.

Yes yes. Half of me is offended by that, the other half by the " The Vikings." It's not like we still crave cold weather, conquering others and are into amassing treasures. Oh wait...

As a person of Nordic descent I am offended by the NFL and state of Minnesota profiting on the likeness and stereotype of my people.

OK, so apparently Native Americans don't want their likenesses used as caricatures. Given their near extinction from this world at the hands of European settlers, I can accept that. It makes a certain kind of sense. (OK, that was sarcastic; it actually makes all kinds of sense.)

Otoh, white people get offended when we are told we can't use other culture's likenesses as caricatures. This is apparently our weakness. Seriously, white guys, get over it. You are actually proving yourselves MORE whiny and sensitive than the people you accuse of being whiny and sensitive. You can't even accept a small name change--one that you admit as the very premise of your argument is negligible--without this whiny fit? The ladies doth protest too much.
