We are planning to go fishing in few weeks but not sure where to go. I have never fished before and have no idea what is required.

I have heard that I need to get a fishing license. I am confused about license as I am just going to do this once and might not even catch anything. Are you telling me that people on galveston pier have fishing license (NO WAY).

Anyway any good recommendations for fishing places. North West Houston and South houston.

Odds are, most dont have a license. But like driving a car without a license, you will get a fine if you get caught.

You may try searching this Houston sub-forum for a thread just like this from about 3 months ago. It has good information and links.

Go deep sea fishing. No license or equipment necessary. All you need is a cooler full of beer. You will actually catch fish this way.

Not true only if you go out more than 15 miles

The problem is when you are returning and are stopped close to shore and they check your cooler. I've had two friends cited when they went offshore (federal waters) with groups and were stopped heading back to dock. Everybody on the boat had limited out, and each friend was the only person without a license. They were given the choice of the captain being cited for exceeding the limit or the guy without the license. When they tried to explain that the fish were caught in federal waters, the reply was, "We get that excuse all the time. You can argue your case in court."

Odds are against this happening to you, but it's something to keep in mind.

I wouldn't risk it (even though it is legal) myself.
