Geez, I wish my rent was only $1,300. My rent is $1,550 for a small 1 bd here in Norwalk, CT, but most complexes charge $1,700+ for a basic 1 bd. Anything down south is cheap.

Well, I think $1300 is a little steep for an apartment.

I agree, especially for Houston. No one should really have to pay more than $1,000 in order to live comfortably there.

You can still get units in older garden-style Class B+ apartments for under $1,300 I believe. Or small (650 sq.ft.) 1 BR in newer complexes.

You can get one cheaper, but you'll be further out and in a older complex. Look around the Galleria area, or around San Flipe, and Fountain View.

Also the more expensive apartments are more or less full ammenity type complexes. I know quite a few people (myself included) who moved from cities where these type of apartments were not as common. There were no pools, barbecue areas, computer rooms or pool tables. We maybe had just a laundry room and not much more.

Personally I think the pools and outdoor spaces are worth the higher price tag, but I also agree that many people just want an apartment and don't care for extra ammenities.

OK, y'all. I've found two places: Aston on West Dallas and CityLake. Will someone shed light on these complexes? What's good about them? How is the area?
