We are moving there in a few months and wondered. If not, do most kids walk/bike or do the parents drive them? I have 6 year old and we are considering either Katy, Cypress, Spring, Kingwood or Pearland (I know, wide range but commuting is not an issue job-wise for us). Thanks!

Mine walk/bike to school. We've always picked homes that were near the schools so the kids could walk/bike. The car rider lines are just ridiculous. It really depends on the location of the school, most districts have the rule that if the home is more than 2 miles away or there is a danger (major intersection, highway etc) they will provide bus service.

The rule in Katy ISD is that elementary students who live outside a half mile radius of the school are eligible for bus transportation. Secondary students outside a one mile radius are also eligible. As Kiovo noted, the lines to drop your child off or pick him/her up are quite long.

Ugh, yes, I would hope to avoid the school car lines. We have bussing here and it's so great. Thanks for the input!

Ha, now that would be a great way to get to school! In California, they didn't provide any busses that I knew of and love how they do it in PA.

I had to start taking Metro to school every day 13 years ago because I got sick and tired of being stranded when I had in Houston ISD when I had to be picked up and nobody cared to tell the school district or the school principals about it. My family refused to take me to school everyday just because they worked and I don't find that an excuse. I didn't get home onetime until 6:00pm which was really horrible and sad. I don't know why the teachers would allow that!
