Hello everyone! I've been highly considering a move to the Houston area. I was born in Dallas and moved to Ohio at age two. My Dad and grandparents currently live in The Woodlands and I've visited quite frequently and think I'm ready to leave the cold in Ohio!

I have a few questions, basically on areas I've been researching online. The ones I've found that might be a good fit are both Katy and Sugarland and my family has mentioned Spring. I enjoy the suburbs, but living close enough to the City Core I could go hangout on the weekends or week sometimes, but also easy access to The Woodlands would be nice, but distance isn't a deal breaker.

My questions would be which city would be best for a 25 year old gay male moving to a new area? I enjoy an area more progressive and up and coming. I'm transferring through my sales employer and they have locations in all three areas. At first I could really only afford $600-$650 monthly rent, but a studio is fine.

So, which area out of those 3 would be the best? And affordable for what I could pay at least the first year? And anymore good areas for mid-20s and somewhat affordable? I'll be visiting in June to checkout the sights and sounds, so any areas to checkout would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance!

sorry to tell you this but $600-$650 monthly is going to put you in the ghetto or the far flung suburbs. Your best bet might be to look for roomates at that price point to be in a better area. Katy is nothing but miles and miles of 3000 sq. ft. 4 bedroom houses so I can't imagine why a young single gay guy would want to live out there. Do you have a job yet? You want to live close to your job. Commutes in Houston can be hours if you live on the far side from your job.

$650/month is quite low if you want to be close to hot spots e.g. Midtown, Montrose, etc. However, with the areas you mentioned, you may be able to find an older apartment the further from the central business districts. I have no idea what the rental rates are for either Katy, Sugarland, or Spring. Spring would definitely be closest of the three to the Woodlands.

For the $650 range you might have to look further north (Conroe area) for that budget.
