I was looking at the homestead exemption form and have a couple of questions. never done this before, so please bear with me.

1. Appraisal district name- we live in Fort bend county, so i looked the name on their website. do i list it as is- Fort Bend Appraisal District - 079 or just Fort bend county?

2. State the Year for Which You are Applying- this should be 2014 correct?

3. Percent Ownership in Property- wouldn't this be 100% or since we have a mortgage, we have to account for that? and if so, how do we determine our percent ownership?

4. Other Owner’s Percent Ownership- again, not sure what to put on here.

5. Number of acres (not to exceed 20) used for residential occupancy of the structure if both the
structure and the land have identical ownership- i'm assuming just put in the acreage information of our home?

6. MANUFACTURED HOME: Make, model and identification number- we purchased a village builders house? is this referring to builder name and plan #? or something totally unrelated?

7. Do you have an exclusive right to occupy this unit because you own stock in a cooperative housing corporation? - Again, i'm assuming "No"

Thanks in advance.

First year, due to my negligence - I didn't file for my exemption on the first year. then I called the Brazoria county office - I did it over the phone. And I see the exempt on my Tax every year.

I didn't file it by submitting any form.

Usually people working at the County office are very helpful - you can get all these questions answered 100% right by talking to them.

How do i file a homestead declaration? - Avvo.com

1. Yes, Fort Bend County.
2. Yes, 2014 for current year as long as you owned your home before Jan 1, 2014.
3. Yes, list yourself and your wife. Either 100% or 50%/50%. They will correct it if that want.
4. Nothing unless you have listed your wife.
5. If no acreage then nothing listed. You can include the lot size of your property.
6. Live in a house? Don't answer this question. Live in a Mobile home, answer away.
7. No..

For #5, "Number of acres (not to exceed 20) used for residential occupancy of the structure if both the
structure and the land have identical ownership- i'm assuming just put in the acreage information of our home?"
Can I just list square feet if I do not know the acreage or lot size?

You should be applying for 2022. You have to live in the house on Jan 1 to get a homestead exemption. If you bought a used house, you may be able to carry over the previous owners exemption for this year. If it's a new house, no such luck
