Our family currently lives in Northern CA. We are considering a move to Texas for work in Houston. Can anyone give info on commute to Houston, flooding, hurricanes, and insurance costs? We like Friendswood because of the schools - we have smaller children.
Thank you.

I have never been in a school district with so much parent involvement. People definitely move here because of the schools. We have been happy so far.

The schools are the main reason for living in Friendswood.

Thank you all for the input - we are looking to move for quality of life and the school system. I really appreciate the comment on parent involvement.

I grew up in Friendswood. It is very family friendly. Great schools, far better than the rankings show. It is a very small community with the most active police force ever. They will respond to a report of a minor smoking or drinking...every single time...ask how I know...Parents all know each other and the kids all play on the same teams, etc....Due to this, there is lots of gossip...dont really know about gossip from the parental standpoint, but certainly from the kid perspective.

I would move back to Friendswood in a heartbeat if my wife did not work downtown. She is an abysmal driver, and she hates driving, so I had to have a shorter commute. Commute to downtown on a normal day is about an hour each way..sometimes worse, sometimes better.

Friendswood is quiet, safe, attractive, and has very stable property values. Do not expect a huge amount of appreciation - just stable prices. I still buy rental properties there b/c of the schools. Housing is affordable, anywhere from $90K to $2+M just depends on what you are looking for.
