Deputies: One shot during fight between nearly 100 juveniles | News - Home

I know this is a big city and things like this really is no big deal. But it is shocking somewhat as it is so far away from city hub out in the suburbs and the number of kids participated. Almost sound like it is a regular thing over there.

For all you newcomers moving into the city, not all the suburbs are the same. Please research carefully.

Hmmm, I don't live in Cypress but I know there are some very, very nice areas as well as not so nice areas, so it certainly seems EXACTLY like The Woodlands, or Sugar Land, or Katy, or any other suburb (or area) of Houston in this regard.

Cypress does seeem like its starting to have a crime problem. I don't know if we are starting to see the effects of people from the inner city moving out to the suburbs or what, but If l live in that area I would be concerned. Maybe cypress is turing into Alief or Aldine.

Looks like it is in the area not far from Lakeville and similar very cheap housing developments, where the homes and even some fences are all siding/plastic (instead of brick) and there were a lot of foreclosures a few years ago. That probably has a lot to do with it.

One, I don't think most people have a clue just how much bigger 'Cypress' is compared to other suburbs.

Population
The Woodlands: 93,847 (44 sq mi)
Sugar Land: 82,480 (25 sq mi)
Katy: 14,661 (11 sq mi)
Pearland: 96,294 (47 sq mi)

Cypress: 122,803 (90 sq mi)

Two, from Wikipedia entry using 2010 census data:
"The 77429 Zip Code is one of the most affluent zip codes in Harris County; nearly 77% of the population has an income over US $50,000 and 42.65% earning over $100,000.[7] The Cypress urban cluster ranks 50th in the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the United States."

Oooh, sounds scary.

Cypress is HUGE. Its like the other suburbs combined. You have areas in Cypress with home that are under $100K and areas with homes that are in the $1MM range.. As such, there are good parts of Cypress and bad parts of Cypress. Much like any other city or area.

Sorry to nitpick again but perhaps you meant to say Sam's? Costco employees are well compensated and the vast majority enjoy retirement and insurance benefits.

(Now I'm just wondering why the moderators haven't yet deleted this thread like they do every thread mentioning crime in another specific part of town...)

I'm sure all the naysayers will use this incident to support their assertion that home buyers should stay south of the Katy Freeway or north of Longenbaugh. Mindlessly ignoring all the suburban single family housing in that area, affordably priced and located close to Energy Corridor jobs.

This shouldn't be a shock as cheap housing brings down the neighborhood. We've seen this happen in other nice suburbs.

I know Cypress is a big area. However, people in this forum are mostly interested in neighborhood and school and etc.

Now the million dollar question is would you want your kid going to that school? Reading the comments from that link shows this has been going on for a while so this is not an isolated incident.
