I've lived here all my life and I don't ever remember it being this cold going into March.

It's the chilliest that I can remember besides my childhood memories. When I was a kid in the 80's, every winter seemed much colder than Houston is now...well, besides this year. Farmers Almanac predicted this part of Texas to have a very long winter that would be extremely cold and wet. My trusty FA is almost always right.

It's pretty cold...
Lets hope that all the roaches and mosquito will be dead
Scientists say that the freezing weather can help reduce the population of a beetle that harms trees, as well as other invasive species.

What is the FA saying about Summer?

What is the FA saying about Summer?

Summer will be hotter and slightly drier than normal, with pockets of major drought likely. The hottest periods will be in early July, mid- to late July, and early to mid-August. Hurricanes should stay east and south of Texas.

Two month forecast:
MARCH 2014: temperature 56° (3° below avg.); precipitation 2" (0.5" below avg.); Mar 1-9: Periods of rain and snow north, rain south; chilly; Mar 10-14: Sunny, cool; Mar 15-20: Rain, then sunny, cool; Mar 21-24: Showers, cool; Mar 25-31: Sunny, then showers, warm.

APRIL 2014: temperature 67.5° (1.5° above avg.); precipitation 4" (2" above avg. north, avg. south); Apr 1-3: Sunny, warm; Apr 4-10: Rainy periods, seasonable; Apr 11-15: Sunny, warm; Apr 16-18: Showers, cool; Apr 19-25: T-storms, then sunny, cool; Apr 26-30: Rain and heavy t-storms north and central; sunny, hot south.

I believe it is the 3rd coldest winter on record for us Houstonites. I certainly don't remember one colder, though. I did yardwork on Saturday, thank goodness I didn't plant any new plants. This is just brutal, and we're expected to have one more cold spell next week, I think. Sigh.

the winter of 2013-2014 has been a cold one, at least by Houston standards. I can remember 1983 being the coldest when pipes were bursting left and right all over this city from the teens temperatures that we had in November, December and Jan of 1984....

I remember 1989 also being pretty cold too..got down to 5* in Houston that year....a couple of years ago, in 2011, the early part of the winter was pretty cold too....got down to 18* here, and we had rolling brownouts

this winter has been ridiculous
I lost count of how many times I had to scrape my windshield this winter... I'd say about 15-20 times

I usually keep the outdoor faucets & pipes covered until warm weather stays. I thought that time had arrived and had uncovered them. Last night's temperature took me by surprise. I knew it was going to be cold but not below 32F degree. Yikes! Today, I went out and covered them back again just to be safe.

We may have ice roads tomorrow. The term "may" could cause a lot of headaches tomorrow morning when people are not strongly advised to stay off the roads as we had in the past.

Be careful and be safe.

This is a miserable winter -- it's not what Houston is known for. I want my Houston weather back, stat.
