Hello All,

I am currently living in San Antonio, but undergoing some life altering circumstances. I will soon be free to relocate if I feel the desire to. It has been my life long dream to live in Galveston. I know it might not be the "greatest" in everyones mind, but I have tons of great memories there. Due to my profession, I am sure that I would have to work somewhere around Downtown Houston. Does anyone commute from Galveston to Houston? My Uncle commutes from downtown to Sealy, and I am wondering how comparable that is.

There are people who do it and if being in the car for a long time doesn't bother you - then you'd be fine. Traffic will be the worst between League City and Downtown. You might find something (employer) in League City area - it's really growing or Clear Lake.

Have done work in Texas city and it was 45 minutes against traffic at best (from midtown). I'd say an hour on a good day from Galveston to commute downtown.

An hour isn't bad! I think my uncles commute is actually over that, but he also utilizes public transportation to get to his car.

You could drive to the clear lake park and ride and it should take you the rest of the way into down town so you would only have to drive a little over half the way

Bay Area Park and Ride

Only bad thing about park and ride is if you get off work early then you have to wait around for the bus to come or if you get off work late someone has to come and get you

Wow, that would be a heck of a commute. My GUESS would be at least an hour an a half each way from home to work. I'd definitely consider doing a couple of test runs to experience it.

I know I couldn't do that.

What is the metro stop furthest to the south and how long of a drive is it there?

If you enjoy reading, driving to the metro stop and then reading the rest of the way in, and out, might make it tolerable enough to live out your dream.

Personally I could never do a commute like that. Whoever said 45 minutes is smoking crack because that drive is almost an hour with no traffic so unless your commute is at 2 am you will spend 3 hours a day in traffic to commute back and forth.

I had to give up crack for my job (drug testing and all). But if you read my post carefully, my 45 minutes was to Texas City, in the opposite direction of the OP. I was driving at 430 am. Galveston is about 10 minutes further. On a good day it would be an hour, more likely 75 minutes if not more.

Sorry just skimming the post on my phone. That'll teach me. My advice to OP is live close to your work and take the 1.5 hour drive to Galveston in the weekends.
