Im a recent graduate and me and my fiancé is planning to move to Houston Texas in August 2014. He is in IT and I am now In banking. However I am wondering how the job search will be since I am in Washington DC. Also if its a good idea to move with out a job. Our main concern is if employers are willing to do Skype and phone interviews being that I am not in town .. Its highly unlikely to buy a ticket for every interview. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? PLEASE HELP

It's not smart to move anywhere without a job. If he has one that's fine because you can look but both of you? That's crazy.

Perhaps you could schedule multiple interviews and make a long week/weekend out of it? I am in much the same boat-I desperately want to move out of Chicago, but even if I land an interview in Tx I can't see myself constantly flying down. What I did do when I was looking for work here many years ago was to email resumes, then tell them I'd be there on the weekend for a holiday and ask if we could schedule an interview. That would immediately remove any concern they might be asked to pay for a flight etc. You have no idea how many times I'd work until 11 PM on a Friday, go home and get 4 or 5 hours sleep, then drive from Cincinnati to Chicago. Would love to get out of this fiscal black hole of a state and find a good paying printing job in Texas, except now I can't hit the road every weekend.

Like the above poster mentioned, as long as one of you has a job I think It's safe. But I would never move anywhere without atleast one of you having a job. Good luck to you, let me know if you have any questions you want answered

If they won't even agree to a skype interview then move on. They should at least do a skype interview before asking you to fly in for an inperson.

Depending what kind of IT he does he may be able to find a job in a matter of weeks. The "IT" job market is pretty hot right now.
