Look out and take notice, Comcast is about to turn your home router into a public WiFi hotspot for those in Houston. Read this article below:

Comcast turns Houston home routers into 150,000 public hotspots - Houston Chronicle

If you have your own modem you do not need to worry about this.

If you have the comcast provided modem you can disable this. Read the article or go to your user preferences on your account page to take care of this.

And this is why I own my own router instead of paying those bastards $8/mo to do their bidding.

I have a telephone with Comcast. I really only use it for the fax though. A model with telephone is over double the cost.

You could probably get an eFax account for far less than what that phone line and cable modem rental is costing you a month.

wow ... thats beyond a crappy business move. These guys have what, a 300GB cap on your usage and now they want to turn your home into a hotspot so somebody can download child porn on your connection ? Anybody who leaves this "feature" on is stupid.

If you have phone with comcast you have to utilize their modem. At least I think that is what I was told. Might have to call and ask them.

You can still turn off the hotspot stuff.

Wow, so what's the point of having those 50 character long passwords if others can jump on and mooch or hack or download?

I know you can turn it off, but there is going to be a learning curve for the elderly
