Although I am very proud of my daughter's achievements as a radio chief for the UN mission in the Sudan the newspaper article that ran in the national newspaper of Hungary yesterday gave me some food for thought: http://www.nol.hu/cikk/474848/

Kata was born in Bryan, Texas - Educated in Berkeley (dual degrees and Dean's list as well as a Fulbright Scholar). She then went on to work in Public Radio and later landed a job with the UN. She spent 2.5 years in Kosovo setting up infrastructure, training the personnel then turning over the radio station to the locals. During the past 2.5 years she's been busy doing the same in Khartoum, Sudan.

The reporter from Hungary was probably draw in by the Hungarian name and failed to mention anything about her nationality, education or birth and simply labeled her as a 'Hungarian radio producer working in the Sudan'.

I wanted to share this with Houston, as during my pregnancy we would drive in to the Alley Theater from Bryan and I still consider her as a "yellow rose of Texas" - despite her Hungarian roots. It was not until the last 5 years that Hungary took several years in granting her dual citizenship due to her parents - so why so quick to forget about her valid background when claiming her credentials.

(I gather you've noticed I am ever so proud of her!)

Wow. What an amazing daughter you have. She must have been brought up by some great parents who encouraged her in everything she did. Kudos to you...and your daughter. ~K~
