We just moved to Houston from Los Angeles. We want to buy a house not exceeding 350k .Just a basic info about us. We have to two kids of elementary age .School and safe neighborhood is in our priory list. My husband works in downtown . So I am researching about buying a house and their are so many stuff. We already got got pre-appoved from a lender in LA so do we need to get it in Houston too or we are good? I know these questions are best answered by realtors thats why I am looking for recommendations to find a good realtor. I know experienced counts a lot in this but what else should I look so that we get the best. Thank you

What areas are you looking in? It might be good to find a realtor that works in the area you are most interested in. It would make showings easier, I would think. Har.com has a section for realtor reviews. That's how I found our realtor.

I'd cross cypress off that list for a downtown commute.

Agree on crossing off Cypress if working Downtown.

Get preapproved by a Texas lender. Out-of-state lenders don't play well with Texas rules and/or title companies, who want to adhere to Texas real estate laws. It's us - we're different. Don't fight it - just get a Texas lender. A lot of sellers won't accept a preapproval from out-of-state (in reality, it's their listing agents, who have experienced the problems in other transactions with out-of-state lenders). It doesn't have to be Houston, but Houston lenders are going to get the better appraisers (rather than a Dallas company that takes what they can get because they aren't regularly ordering them for down here - for example).
