I live and work just a few miles from Kemah. It is a little touristy but as others have mentioned, it is very safe. It is nowhere near as touristy as Florida or even Galveston. The homes are older as there is not a lot of new construction. The population is older as well. There are a lot of older families and retirees. This becomes more obvious when you compare it to its younger neighbor, League City. I think it is a nice place to live.

I don't think it's a "weird" place. If anything, Galveston folks would be considered weird. When I first came here I was told that once you cross the bridge into the Island, the vibe and people change (not a bad thing). If you drive into Galveston, you will see what this means.

I am more interested in hearing about this good seafood on the boardwalk.....I have never had any good seafood there. I have had overpriced Landry's chain food there....once.

I like to go to some of the small non-landrys owned bars and restaurants back there. Bacchus and soon to open hamburger joint hubcap grill. Palapa bar and zone something or other.

There is more to Kemah than just the boardwalk.

Kemah's school info: It's in Clear Creek Independent School District. Zoned schools are Stewart Elementary, League City Intermediate, and Clear Falls High.

I love Bacchus. I thought Hubcap was supposed to open in the spring--wonder what the holdup is--it looks finished

There are good restaurants in the lighthouse district right next to the boardwalk. Amadeus is really good. Bacchus is good. A bit loud due to the neighbors, but good. There's also this little organic wine bar restaurant place that I forget the name. That is over priced.

You've been misled. It's a tourist trap and has bad seafood.
