Hello,

My husband and I are looking to buy a house early next year, as we are sick of renting an apartment and need a lot more space. We aren't native to Houston, we moved here from Missouri a couple years ago. So we are getting a lot more familiar with different areas/neighborhoods, but certainly not like as familiar as we would like. Anyway, can anyone suggest a good neighborhood with a decent school district that isn't the Woodlands or on the north side? Reason being is even though my husband's job is a field tech, his territory is on the south side, and to avoid an excess of driving we want to stay kind of south/west side-ish. My job is over on the Katy Fwy, so I am resigned to having to drive quite a bit. I know this info is kind of vague, sorry!

We want to stay in the $100,000 to $150,000 range if possible. We don't have children yet, so school district might not come into play for another six years or so, and by that time we might be ready to move into a larger home. I guess our biggest concern would be safety of the neighborhood. I have been looking at the Remington Ranch subdivision, but the reviews aren't so great. I appreciate any info you guys can give me!
Thanks!

There are many houses in that price range around Hwy 6 between Hwy 59 to 288 which is diverse. If you want to be closer to country and Hispanics people, then you might like something zoned to Barbara Cockrell Elementary School.

For that price range, I think you would do well to look into Meadows Place, which offers excellent schools and inexpensive housing. The houses are not new, nor are they large. Additionally, it is adjacent to Alief, which many people consider to be a bad area. However, Meadows Place does have its own police force and the crime rate within its boundaries is very, very low.

I would have to agree with looking at Meadows Place based on price and job locations. It is a safe area with good schools.
