Hi Everyone! My husband recently got a new job in Houston and we will be moving there in a few weeks! We will be buying a house there so we will need to find a short term furnished rental in the meantime.

I've been trying to do some research but haven't found very many that are affordable. We are looking to stay around $2,000 a month total and they also need to allow our dog. I've looked at the Extended Stay Hotels as well but think we might something bigger than a hotel room if we're gong to be staying in it for over a month.

Does anyone know of any good, affordable places I can check out or other options?

Thank you!

We (family of 5... But no pets) were between houses for 6 weeks.

Couldn't find a short term rental in that price range.

We opted for the extended stay hotel. It was tight but doable.

Actually the kids and I went to visit family for about 3 of those weeks while my husband stayed in Houston for work.

So that might be an option too. Move the husband to the hotel and take a vacay or look up some long distance friends/family that would enjoy your visit.

Suck it up for a month in the Extended stay hotel. You will appreciate the space afterward.

Unfortunately, as crazy as the market is for buying a house - it's much worse for renting. Landlords are raising rents and only going for long leases. Extended stay is probably the only option.

Try Candlewood Suites--they allow pets & have suites that are very much like small apartments (separate bedrooms/full kitchen). We had one for 3-4 months until we were able to get moved & settled into our house. As a plus--you can negotiate a little & get a cut on the price.

Thanks everyone! It's looking like we are going to have to just suck it up and do the Extended Stay....The deposits and fees that other corporate housing places charge, especially for pets, are insane!!

I will have to look into the Candlewood Suites as well. Thanks for all the advice!
