I will be starting a job in Sugar Land and am looking to possibly get a house in Wharton. For those familiar with the area, what type of commute can I expect? Google maps is telling me about 40 minutes. Does that sound fairly accurate?

Thanks

No idea, but if you can't find something in Sugar Land, I'd look at Richmond as a better alternative.

Distance-wise, it should take about 30-35 minutes, but the traffic on 59 (aka 69) comes to screeching halt right before Rosenberg/Richmond. Expect closer to 50-60 minutes, I'd say.

It is about right without the traffic. I used to travel opposite direction to bay city passing through Wharton county from Sugar Land. It took me about 40 to 45 minutes without traffic to Wharton county court house.

I'll be getting to work by 7am. How bad is traffic on 59 between 6 and 7am?

This is quite tolerable. You'll find it easier to get through the 59 to the beltway junction before 7:00 AM.

Getting to work by 7am, you should be able to get close to that 40 minute estimate, maybe 45 minutes where it slows down in Rosenberg (about halfway between the two). A very straight shot of a drive up/down 59.
