Hi all,

My husband and i currently reside in Kingwood and really like it here, but my husband works in Deer Park, and the hour commute is started to get old. We are currently living with family, and saving up for a down payment for our first home.

We have been looking closer to his work, and have decided when we buy we are going to move that side of town to be closer to his work. Also, it seems a better location overall, especially as i will be graduating this December, and the area is closer to the city for me job wise.

We looked around Pearland and liked it a lot, but we preferred the 77581 side of town, although our budget is $130,000, so the 77584 side had more in our price range.

I have heard good things about Friendswood, but we haven't really looked around the area much. We have a friend that lives in Wedgewood Village, and we really liked the neighborhood. It seemed very pleasant, and quiet. We have also heard Friendswood has very good schools.

We also looked into League City which i personally wasn't too fond of. They had some ok neighborhoods, but they were way out of our price range, and i still felt in areas that industrial look that we are trying to avoid. We would like to be closer to his work, but still in a suburb, and far away enough from the power plant/industrial look.

So does anyone have any suggestions on neighborhoods and areas that would be a good option for us, with a $130,000 budget?

Have you looked at Middlebrook, Camino South or the old Clear Lake City core? Zip codes 77059 and 77062.

Concerning Friendswood, Wedgewood Village is in CCISD, not Friendswood ISD. While some CCISD schools are excellent, the particular ones that Wedgewood Village is zoned to are not among the best that CCISD has to offer. Homes in Friendswood ISD in your price range would most likely be in the subdivisions of Anna Alea and Sun Meadow. If you'd like to look in Friendswood ISD, try searching by school district in HAR.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Would you say those neighborhoods you mentioned are pretty nice?

Another friend said really good things about Heritage Park, but this is listed as Webster on HAR. Does anyone know much about this area?

In all honesty, they are probably the least nice neighborhoods in Friendswood ISD, but Friendswood ISD is generally an upper middle class area with most homes being significantly higher than your price range. Any area in Friendswood ISD is going to be safe and have excellent schools. The houses in Sun Meadow and Anna Alea are generally smaller and older. Some have been nicely updated and some have not. You will get a newer, larger house for your money in Pearland, League City, or the CCISD portions of Friendswood. People who move to Friendswood ISD are willing to pay a premium for their home to be in the school district.

Parts of Heritage Park have Webster addresses and parts have Friendswood addresses. They are zoned to CCISD schools. The schools feed into Clear Brook High School, which is not the best CCISD high school (this is the same high school that Wedgewood Village is zoned to). It is not a bad area, but the schools aren't as good as Friendswood or some other schools in CCISD (like Clear Lake HS, for instance).

Never thought of League City as having a power plant/industrial look considering there is basically 0 industry in the city. It is all residential and retail/commercial. But yes, a $130,000 budget is probably a bit low for a home in League City.

There used to be condos for sale in that price range on Davis Rd in League City. But the empty land over there has been gobbled up by $500,000+ homes or at least it seems that way. More condos on Egret Bay Blvd, too. That budget will be tight, though.

I too am puzzled over where the industrial part of League City is.
