I am searching for a place to host an adult birthday party. I would like to have dinner first for approx 30 close friends and then larger party after with cocktails and small bites for 80 total. Ideally I would like somewhere that serves good wine for dinner and then somewhere lively for the larger party. Or same venue would be even better. Indoor/Outdoor would be a bonus since it will be late October. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

You can rent the entire place for a night:

Houston Private Party & Corporate Events, Catering | MAX's Wine Dive - Houston - Washington Ave. - Restaurant & Bar

Quote:
While Wine Dive Houston is a smaller-than-most restaurant and doesn’t have a private room, we can accommodate cocktail-style events. And on certain nights, portions of the dining area (or even the entire restaurant) can be dedicated to private events.

you best have it at two different locations. it will be a little awkward if your party of 30 comes out from your nice dinner and the 50 who were not invited to the nice dinner suddenly realize the didn't make the cut.

Budget is around $2500 for dinner and $2500 for party so total of $5000. Maroon79 I agree and had thought about this but if at same location I would make sure the rooms were far apart plus the after party is a surprise for the bday guest and would not want them to see either.

Ok here are some thoughts....
Corner Table for dinner and then after party at 1919/Mixology
Ibiza for dinner and after party next door at bar
Benjys for dinner and after party in bar

Dinner-
Flemings
Americas
Uchi

After Party-
Hughs Hangar
Hudson Lounge
Black Swan

Anyone has experience hosting or attending party/dinner at these places?

I go to Spotlight Karaoke about every 3 months, and sometimes I see the whole place rented out for a private party. That sounds like what you'd need for a party of 80-100, but if you can trim it down some they have private rooms that can acoomodate up to 50. Just a thought.
