It's really great that newer suburb development is adopting this style of 'town/city centers', where families can can walk about and shop (or not) en plein air. It's a play on small towns across Europe and older areas of the US that centered the community around a town hall center. I love it and it totally makes sense.

Yes, I am getting older. I thought the suburbs of my youth were Boringville, USA. Now the suburbs are microcosms of the city. The concept of amenities is evolving. The suburbs are importing some of the fun, flavor, nice factors of 'The City' and I like it.

Does going to Torchy's in Sugarland make me a dork rather than going to the one on Shepherd? I don't think so. But then again I am not 25 any more so maybe it does.

Basic amenities will never change but it's the next tier of amenities that will; better/nicer selection of restaurants, retail, entertainment, etc. that people want and expect in the suburbs. Restaurants and retail I left behind in the city are making their way out past the loop and I am happy to see them and spend my money there.

If it's overpriced, the Sugar Landers will love it. They see no problem paying $12 for two cheese enchiladas at Escalantes.

Escalante's is located all over town, so your comment isn't specific to sugar land. That said, I agree about escalante's being overpriced.

they do have good cheese enchiladas though. I guess I'm getting old, because I don't think of Escalantes as being expensive.

You're right, it's not all that expensive, just relatively expensive with great tex mex all over this area for less.... Like Lopez not too far. Chuy's right up the road now too. I think those places top escalante's and are cheaper, but to each their own. Heck, I don't think torchy's is overpriced, but the majority here do.

I'm excited about Torchy's coming to SL, but I have a feeling that once it's nearby it won't be nearly as crazy appealing to me and my friends because of its availability. I'm really looking forward to the Rudy's BBQ that's being built at Hwy 59 and Grand Parkway though!
