We just moved to Conroe, and I have heard that if you go down to the gulf you can get amazing deals on fresh seafood, like large shrimp. Is there a place you have found that has good prices? Or any stores that carry fresh?
Thanks!

Oil spill, perhaps? The biggest in U.S. history...
And this fairly recent:
http://www.click2houston.com/news/of...spill/25173700

Oil spills in Galveston Bay are routine occurrence. Since the late 90's, Galveston Bay has averaged 285 spills a year
The spills occur frequently enough to raise concerns about the health of the bay, which provides critical habitat for oysters, shrimp, fish and tens of thousands of migratory birds. It's like death by a thousand cuts, especially when you combine the oil spills with all of the other stressors to the bay.
The state health agency, meanwhile, has advised people to avoid regularly consuming fish and blue crab from the Houston Ship Channel and north of the Fred Hartman Bridge because of cancer-causing dioxin, pesticides and other toxic chemicals.

Wow--elnina--if you review the OP's question, it was regarding where to purchase fresh seafood. Not about the perceived safety or healthfulness of the seafood.

To the OP--as previously stated, try out Rose's Seafood under the Kemah bridge. There's no need to go all the way to Galveston unless you just want to. If you bring an ice chest, Rose's will also supply you with ice to take your "catch" home.

Do you not remember the BP oil spill that dumped 210 million gallons of oil into the gulf?

There are hundreds of natural oil spills in the Gulf Of Mexico constantly going on every day.

Sure, it's not nearly to the tune of 210 million gallons; however, when you think about the total volume in the Gulf, it's not that much.
