Houston drops on the list of most popular places to move, says United Van Lines survey - Houston Business Journal

Just read this and am not sure what to think.. how can their study do a complete turn around like that in the span of a year?

Do you find this credible? I sense an amount of BS, but maybe our housing inventory and pricing is actually starting to affect us?

We discussed this in another forum. The consensus is that the data comes only from the demographic that hires United Van Lines. Maybe less people wanted to pay their prices for moving.

People are still moving to Houston, but perhaps more are using U-hauls or smaller moving companies. I don't put much stock in a survey by a moving company.

If you take in count of all of the Illegals, Houston should be on top by a huge number.

ha! it seems as if 1/10 of every car in the city is from out of state. plates from the north east, the mid west, west coast.. everywhere. heck, i counted 7 plates out of state on my street alone!

[Edit] i'd like to see it slow down a little though, ease up on the traffic a bit

The semi trucks? I wouldn't take their numbers into consideration. Not everyone needs an 18 wheeler to move their stuff. I'm sure they have smaller trucks but i've never seen them.

I agree. Those vans are used mostly for corporate relocation.
I think United has only big trucks, but there are also Atlas, Mayflower, Allied, Bekins and few more.

Good points, that is what I started to figure as well. I didn't give it much credit, especially since we still see all these praise pieces by other publications.

I just wonder why it seems that Business Journal gives these surveys so much attention.

The job market has been cooling off / stabilizing.
