That made me laugh.

However, we are still less expensive when you compare Houston to the four other largest cities in the US.

Sure, because even green energy isn't green when you look at the big picture unless you think the only thing green energy is powering are water filters to help clean rivers.

In the end, the vast majority of energy is used for human consumerism.

Per kilowatt, who do you believe receives more subsidies, fossil fuel or green energy?

If you figure out a way to actually total the full amount of subsidies to fossil fuels let me know. You'll have to include road building (which facilitates gasoline and diesel use), public leases, the cost of war in the Middle East to defend the world's oil supply, and the oil that wouldn't be drilled at all if state laws that require landowners to allow extraction.

Oh and don't forget the costs of fossil fuel. Not just pollution but also add up the oil money that goes to terrorist organizations. Wealthy people in the Persian Gulf are funding ISIS

Very true.... essentially, Houston's finance sector was a small version of Dallas, based on local banks and consumer / local transactions. Fast forward past a few S&L implosions, and I would argue that in finance Dallas has grown a bit in scale, while Houston has vaulted it in scope.

Before the last half century of road building, electric trolleys were how people commuted. If it weren't for the massive socialist investment in highways for suburban->urban commuting, we would still have trains as the primary commuting method. Those use a lot less fossil fuel

Electric trolleys still run down street ROW's. Even when horse and buggys were dominate you still had roads. Besides people want individual means to transport themselves as well, very few people want to rely exclusively on mass transit, and many of those that do are doing so more to make a statement than making a free market decision of transportation choices. Nobody wants to be isolated, roads and highways connect cities and towns to each other. Who would want to live in a town where the only means in or out is a train or airport? OLT, trucking is still the best way to deliver goods and merchandise to most businesses and trucks of course need roads to operate.
