What? Didn't know they shut it down. I have to agree with you, I work in CityCentre and co-workers and I would go there for happy hour. We loved that place, plus it was a lot cheaper than the overrated places in CityCentre.

There's still tons of space for lease and they are putting up more?

I think he meant CityCentre is overrated.

Most city or town "centres" are overrated though. They have the same stores with the same chain restaurants and bars. It would be nice if there was way more variety but I get only the big companies can afford to lease space.

Development in Houston needs to be more discovery green and less of these "centres".

People are quick to dog on the city centres but they are a million times better than a big strip center/parking lots. Most of these town centres also have large green areas where kids can play, its walkable, and they hold community events.

My sense of our city centre is that it is rather like a strip-mall. The shops are higher-end and the parking is more difficult to come by, but there is relatively little going on there beyond the commerce. Of course, commerce is necessary, but I honestly don't know what else I'd be doing with myself in the city centre if I weren't shopping (even then I feel like an oddball on account of the aggressively "upscale" feel). I did once see some kids doing some sort of organized activity on a small patch of grass, but honestly I'd say that the Memorial City Mall has more civic sensibility than the city centre.

I don't even know what this means! Malls are hideous, I can't stand going to one and Memorial mall is no exception. Parking is easy at City Center/Town & Country - not sure why you think it isn't.

Anyway, if the consensus is its over-rated then how can it be over-rated?? I think its a great alternative to anything else that could be there. Let's face it, quaint, walkable areas are grown, not built - especially on land as valuable as this. So it ain't happening, we can't all have Rice Village in our backyards so I'll take this.

What I like about it - we can go to several stores we frequent without going to the mall or Westheimer, especially Gap and Barnes & Noble. We are members of the gym, we do go to a couple of the outdoor activities during the year. The cafe Ruggles Green, on the "grassy" part, is fun to go to as a family or with the kids sports team and sometimes there is live music too. We like Brios, Seasons 52, the Tasting Room and the jazz bar at Eddie V's. I get take out sushi from Nori Sushi and a certain family member likes Ulta, Lululemon, Althleta.

I dunno, it seems people who think City Center is over-rated either have unrealistic expectations or just don't live near enough to it to appreciate what it does offer, even if it is just blatant consumerism.

A truly urban and walkable feel would be ideal like in parts of SF or Brooklyn, but I got to agree with ToyYot's and Kiovo's sentiments that these town center developments are a million times better than their alternatives. City Centre is just a really beefed up version of one of these suburban town centers since it's closer into the city and around a very expensive area of Houston to live in, but I'd take it any day of the week over what town and country was, or just having it entirely be bland strip centers.

We live close to the City Center and love it. We have two very young kids and they enjoy playing in the little grassy area while we meet our friends or have a drink/ meal. Invariably we end up meeting someone there that we know and that does not always happen in a mall. There is always live music and other activities over there that keeps people coming. I don't understand why it has to be "real" for people to enjoy it
