I took the family down to Galveston this weekend to stay at Moody Gardens Hotel and do Schlitterbahn on Sunday. We went to the beach on Saturday for a few hours on Saturday, because my wife feels the need for the kids to play on the beach.

Anyhow, there wasn't a spec of seaweed (other that the stuff bulldozed back by the wall). The water color was actually decent, and it looked great in the bay while passing over on the bridge.

This was our first time to Schlitterbahn Galveston, and I was fairly impressed. I've heard people bash it many times, and I can't determine why. I thought it was pretty cool and the kids had a blast.

On the way home last night, we stopped and ate in Kemah. We went to Bakkhus Taverna. The gyro burrito is pretty dang tasty and huge. Their bread pudding was right on top as well. Topped it off with a Southern Star Blonde Bombshell.

May have to check out dem eats you just mentioned. That's a good beer too!

Not sure how often you go this time of year but usually the water gets clearer along the entire coast. I might have to check out that beach as it might be much more swimmable this time of year.

Nice to get that update !

Galveston does a fair amount of work down there. More so around the seawall with their new peer down there and trying to attract tourism. or maybe I should say a certain person or two spurs them on depending on where something could use some work.

I was down there in March and it wasn't bad. still not Florida to me, but not bad. I wouldn't get in any water in Florida anymore myself though.

now Kemah, yup, that is a nice place to visit and hit up every so often. even the live music nights.

This is the perfect time to go to Galveston. Great weather, the water is that deep blue sometimes, and less tourists.

So nice to read comments that aren't bashing Galveston. It may not be for everyone, but I happen to love it down there. Last weekend we sat on the deck and watched the dolphins playing -- what could be more relaxing than that?

I could visit any ocean no matter how blue or brown the water is.

I've visted Galway Ireland and sat out by the sea and it was black and cold! But the magical energy of the ocean was still present.

It's the magical energy of the sea world/life that makes it a worthy adventure.

We went to Gulf Shores, Alabama in September and the water was full of the green slimey type of seaweed. Trying to fish off of the pier was almost impossible. There were so many sharks that everytime someone would get a fish on the line the sharks would have a feeding frenzy trying to get it and they usually did. When I was growing up in Houston we went to Galveston and Surfside all the time. I miss it. No ocean up here in the mountains of Arkansas. But we do have the four seasons and the prettiest one is starting real soon.
