Then take the ferry to Crystal Beach. May have rentals there.

Why don't you just go somewhere that you actually want to go. Hotels are pricey - just the way it is.

You can rent a home for a 3 weekend for $225 to $250 a night. There is a nice little 2 bed room 1 bath that sleeps 8 that is 45th 2 blks from the seawall it is really my family has rented it 2 times $250 a night. You should be able to get if you plan to go there in about 6 weeks

Well, don't go to the local diner with a $5 budget and expect to be amazed with culinary delights.

BTW, don't even look at Moody Gardens hotel. The per night price after taxes is $239, and the delicious poolside mango margaritas were $10 each. Additionally, the last thing the other guests want is someone having the waiter go over the price of each drink, asking about free refills and then tying him up with an order of free ice water with a bunch of lemons and some sugar packets.

Hotels near the beach have been over $100 for awhile now. Regardless of how nasty the water is where in the USA can you find a $79 a night hotel with a view of the beach? You can get a place that cheap with a beach mural in the room but far from the seaside

Why even go if you don't like it? I hate Galveston thus I refuse to ever pay to stay or visit. I go down there to leave on a cruise and that's it. I save for a real beach and blue water not a quicky becaus I don't need beach that badly.

I can wait for the real deal

I don't believe I know anyone who only goes on vacation to pretty beaches with blue water.

You're missing out on some fun destinations.

If you stay at a cheap hotel in Galveston, you are gonna get a cheap experience and it will likely be with cheap people. Now I don't endorse spending $300 for Hotel Galvez or whatever, but if you are looking for a $50 hotel, in Galveston, you are kind of setting yourself up. If you really want to stay in Galveston, it may be worth it to spend a little so you can also enjoy a peaceful, gunshot-free rest. There are some nice places to stay on the island, but you will have to open your wallet.

You don't know me then

Eh, I've been to Galveston and didn't consider it fun. I like the beach but when I want it I save for the real deal. Other than that the pool is just fine for me. Fun is subjective anyway.
