Hi All,

We have recently signed a contract with Westin to build a house in Cardiff Ranch. We are thinking of going to the design center a few days before our actual design center appointment so that we are better prepared. I will really appreciate if you can give us some suggestions as to what main points we should keep in mind. And also, if you can give us the details about your design center experience with Westin and any lessons that you might have learnt?

Thanks!

Did they give you a print out of the upgrade/price list (70+ pages)? You can Google image search for most of the items listed in there to get an idea of what things they offer look like (i.e. granite colors, faucets, cabinets, etc). As for paint colors, I believe each Westin model home keeps a book with color swatches to look at. If you haven't picked bricks yet, you can look those up online too. There are samples in the model homes too, but they don't have everything.

I didn't have time to take off work and visit the design center before my appointment, so I had to Google search and visit inventory and models after work.

If you're planning to use them for flooring, backsplashes, and such, you'll want to visit the design center to browse their selection.

I'd say it's best if you know most of what you want before appointment time. The more choices you can make quickly and decisively during the actual design center appointment, the better. You'll need that time saved for things you aren't quite so sure on.

When you break for lunch on appointment day, definitely check the upgrade list print out they give you for errors, in both selection and pricing. I found a few on mine.

Home security was the last thing they had me make selections for, but by that time you might be tired and feel inclined to say no to a lot of stuff, or feel like you'll be spending more than planned, since they got you to spend on all the pretty stuff beforehand. I'd keep that in mind if you have a tight budget.

Also there's a ton of stuff you might want them to add to your house that they won't specifically ask you about, and you'll have to ask them. Things like if you want to extend the perimeter of your fence forward , if you want regular or wider light switches, if you want to upgrade air conditioning units, insulation, etc.

Good luck!

I would suggest to look around of houses built by Westin Homes. Take a note of the addresses of the houses which bricks, stones and mortars you would like to use. Then you can get what they are from your sales manager or staff in the design center.

There is difference between the picture and the actual stuff. Beyond that it can be different because of different manufacturers.
